About

The Work

I’m a twenty-something web designer in Kansas City. I’ve been in the web design industry since September 2004 when I began my career with Lagarde Inc, an e-commerce solutions provider. The first year or so I did web design which entailed a lot of time in Photoshop as well as communicating with clients to determine what they need and want, then implementing that design into our e-commerce software … typically all within a very limited time line.

An opportunity arose to be an Implementer exclusively, so I spent a little over a year taking the designs other designers had worked out with our clients and implemented them into LaGarde’s software. This allowed me to expand my understanding of html and css as a craft. Having a more intimate understanding of html and css has enabled me to better understand how to design for the web, resulting in much stronger web sites.

As of March ‘07, I’m currently employed at CACTUS Software as a part of the development team doing interface design. Basically I’ll be designing the user interface for various projects … not all necessarily web-based.

Leisure

If I’m not listening to music I’m making an attempt to play it. I’m not that great but I play because I enjoy it, not for anyone else, and its something productive to do with my spare time. Its a lot more engaging than TV. I’m also hoping I can be in an old-man band when I’m like 60 that plays Sinatra covers - sweet! I’m sure you know the type.

My constant battle is trying to get myself to draw and paint more often. Drawing and painting since I was a kid was how I segued into this career and I’d really like to hang on to that. Again, I’m no Cezanne … I do it mostly because its therapeutic to stand there with a brush and make something.

Thats really it: The satisfaction derived from creating something is what drives me in my career and my hobbies. I’m not content until what I start is done … and nothings every really done so that’s my constant source of motivation. That and learning and discovering new ideas and techniques … whether they apply to web design, visual art, or music.
